When we talk about "The Power Of Music" we often talk about memories, so thinking back to the first single you bought, what memories does it conjure up for you? My first single (on vinyl) was "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" by Jimmy Osmond in 1972! Back then I was only four and after hearing it on the radio and Top Of The Pops I nagged and nagged and managed to get my Nan bless her to buy it for me. It brings back great memories of both my Nan and Grandad whom I loved very much. At that time me and my Mum lived with them and I would help my Grandad out in the garden growing vegetables, getting dirty digging, I loved the dirt, and we also had a cat, no name just "Cat" and I was always playing with her and always getting scratched to death, but it never stopped me!

My second single (on vinyl) was "The Funky Gibbon" by The Goodies in 1975! Again bought by my Nan. At that time I was seven and had a yellow and blue tractor and trailer and a go-cart and was tazzing round the village we lived in causing havoc, you couldn't get me off them! Also back then our record player was a Radiogram that looked a little bit like a small side-board, it was made of wood, on legs and you had to lift the lid to play your records!

My third single (on vinyl) was "Cars" by Gary Numan in 1979! By this time I was eleven and my musical tastes had somewhat matured a little! But when I first heard this on the radio I instantly fell in love with it and bought the single then the album "The Pleasure Principle". It wasn't just the the song, it was the sound and is where I got into synthesizers and electronic music. Of course the next year 1980 and onwards saw an explosion of electronic bands, Depeche Mode, OMD and Ultravox to name some of my favorites, I also got into Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis.

Thank you for sharing your favorite music from childhood. Long Haired lover from Liverpool...very cute! The Goodies- Funky Gibbon, I can also see why you liked them when you were young. They remind me a little bit of the Wiggles from Australia, which were popular with kids in the early 2000's. Love Cars and great to hear an old song that was also popular in the US. I can remember "cruising" to that song...lol. :D Depeche Mode....one of my favorites; Personal Jesus.

The bands and music that I'm still emotional attached too until this day are: Van Halen (Both lead singers), Boston, ACDC, Rush and Journey. I have so many more and I'll have to think about it and add later. My favorite Van Halen song that has always been so inspiring from my Junior High and High school years for my sport (figure skating) and music was Right Now. I would often jam to it to get amped up for a work out. *I get your frustration on formatting. I will see what I can do to create a special member level for you so you can edit everything.

I forgot to add what the first single I bought was? It was Sugar, Sugar by the Archies :D

Queen, what a classic! I remember this on Top of the Pops and my Nan saying she couldn't stand it! Ha ha! But then again, she was into James Last!

My parents were funny about music too. My dad was a little bit more tolerant then my mom. My mom was an opera singer and all classic. I can remember my dad, brother and I taking a three week trip through all of the western states of the US and he tolerated me jamming to ACDC. Funny that your Nan didn't like Queen...I had a Nana. Queen is amazing! I had to look up James Last....zippy-fun music.:)

I'm not sure I could tolerate ACDC, but well well done your Dad especially for three weeks!

ACDC is an acquired taste from being a rebellious teenager....lol....I don't listen to it anymore since I've grown up. A lighter more mellow note; more Queen. I also like classical music as I was a fluteest for many years and as mentioned above, my mom was an opera singer, so there was a lot of music in my house, which is why I probably listened to rock music to clear my pallet of all of the opera....lol. This is a little long, but one of my favorite classics; Dvorak (pronounced dee-vor-jacque) Symphony No 5.
