Rubio Calls for Ban of TikTok in U.S.

This system is appealing because the algorithm curates content that is incredibly specific to the individual. However, why is [b]Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and his colleague Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) urging the U.S. government to ban the app in the United States? The answer is that TikTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. And as Rubio’s press release puts it, no Chinese company is truly private. This app has access to users’ cellphone locations, browsing data, and possibly create profiles of millions of Americans just based on their app interaction.

There is already a nice discussion about TikTok in the FR Forums.

I thought I'd add a separate TikTok discussion under groups as this latest link seems to fit the newer concerns of TikTok. For the record, I don't TikTok, nor ever plan too. I really like to have "trust" in forums and websites I participate in. If I get an "ewww" feeling about a website, I don't go there. TikTok gives me that "ewwww" feeling and beyond.

On TikTok, Chinese State Media Pushes Divisive Videos About U.S. Politicians

Many of the videos attacked specific U.S. politicians before the midterm elections and pushed divisive social issues, without clear labels disclosing they were coming from state-controlled media.

I'll just let you decide on this one.

On Tech's Realm: US legislators have an unexpected challenge in being able to remove TikTok, which are the Berman Amendments.

    From TechiDiva at Tech's Realm-
This legislation battle could get really messy, especially worse since our congress and senate have forgotten how to compromise and negotiate and chose rather the "line in the sand" stance then nothing gets done. I'll be watching this progress, will you?

    From the WSJ Article:

The Berman amendments create an exception to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA, for informational materials, however, making them “the biggest problem right now” in adopting a measure to ban

TikTok and similar apps based in potentially hostile foreign countries, according to an aide to Mr. McCaul, the incoming chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

    More reasons to not TikTok:

A man from Indiana died after falling off a cliff in Puerto Rico while shooting a TikTok video near the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse. His brother was with him and warned him he was too close to the cliff's edge. He subsequently fell 70 feet and died on impact. This isn't the first time nor the last time we will see people doing a bit of crazy to film a video for online viewing. Is it worth it for the attention to take these risks?

hei. About tik-tok. The uk and other nations such as, Canada, New Zealand, Europe, Australia are banning tik-tok to be used by all government departments and tech systems.

    The reason:
Tik-Tok is built using Tech that is created for and only used under chinese military permission and control.
The tech used was created as Info and imagery gathering and recognition software.
the Tik-Tok company is managed by the military the staff are military or employed by the military. ( conspiracy theory alert) but its a true fact.
So all them people around the world including children are being for some part monitored and data stored by the chinese military.
It is beleived that: the more peole use tik-tok sooner or later government officials, military personel and other valued persons will be monitored and images and data stored for military perposes.
This included locations or inside locations for the same reason. (again conspiracy theory) but this is slowely being proven to be true.

Tik-Tok is basically a chinese military company but it was trialed in Greece for several years before becoming world-wide trend.

The same goes for Zoom (russian tech built for the same reason).

The US and other countries are taking out of their Tech systems any and all parts that are made in china or by chinese companies.

This includes defence tech. As all government computers and other tech that contain chinese made parts, the parts are being replaced by us or other tech company parts made in the us or UK and other approved nations.

Even i have been told by the defence and law enforcement agencies not to use tik-tok or zoom.

So there is some factual evidence not to use Tik-Tok.
